Preparation for the show

Looking after small pet time flew by quickly. And now you are the owner of a perfect dog – Orchid of Petersburg. You would like to know how good is your pet and maybe to compare it with the others. In that case you surely should take part in the dog-show. But dashing is not enough for taking part in the show. You will have to work.

You need:
- To teach the dog going with the special show-lead, to circle, to move counter-clockwise. It should trot with raised head and assumed tail.
- You should teach the dog to be on the table with the special show-stand.
- To show the teeth
- Veterinary passport should be adjusted correctly:1 hydrophobia-vaccination must be valid for a year. 2 A mark for dehelmintization must be valid for 3 months
The orchid should be washed and cut in the day of the show. At least a week before you should start the preparations with every-day training, it takes about 5-10 minutes every day, it is necessary to teach the pet to stand and to move beautifully.

At the end of the walk you can find a quit place. Imagine that you are on the stage and the expert is in the center. Give a command “near” and run several times counter-clockwise about the “expert”. Don’t try to run too quickly. Dog must trot. Be careful, the god should run near the left leg, the lead should not be stretched. Give a command “Stop” and don’t continue running. You should stay face to face with the expert and the dog must be in front of you, left side to the expert. You should raise a little bit the dogs head and try to detain this pose for a minute, after it the dog can relax. Continue doing this exercise for several times (2-3) and try to increase the time in stand.

The assumed expert is ahead of you. Move away from him (running) straight (4-5 metres). Then turn back (180°) and run back in the same manner. After it the dog should be in a stand. Repeat the exercise 2-3 times.
If you repeat this exercised every day (at least a week before the show) you shouldn’t blush for the jumping on the stage dog during the dog-show.

First shows are usually nervous. That is way you should come to the show a bit earlier (with the young dog). In that case you will have a possibility to look around, to do the registration gently, receive the number, find the stage and to do the preparations for the event.

And now we are on the show
From the very beginning till the referees’ conclusion you should not forget the aim of your visit and don’t forget who should concentrate all your attention. In the morning you should have enough time to come to the show. Pay attention to the unforeseen problems like traffic jams. You should come earlier to have some time for the last preparation which can help you to show your pet in the proper and best way. Give it enough time to stretch it’s legs and solve all the “private” problems. The dog that should be presented on the stage immediately after arriving most likely will not impress the referee as it should.

After arriving you should go the secretary, receive your tag and fasten it to the sleeve. Control the place where you are after your class is mentioned. Having a tag doesn’t mean that the referee will wait for you. He/she has a very strict timetable and it is not easy to manage in this time. Even if you are nervous you should look self-confident and calm. Remember that shows, dogs are just a hobby and you should enjoy it. In that case your dog will bench better because it adopts your mood.

While leading out the dog you should be proud of it. If you make mistakes while presenting it –don’t worry. The next time it will be better. Don’t allow somebody who is better-experienced confuse you. They also were newcomers!

Usually the process of referring starts when you are asked to go around the periphery. At that moment the referee observe the manner and style of every dog: how it moves, high line, head and tail pose and general balance. Be concentrate on your own dog, look at it and try to induce it for the best movements, observe the distance (not to impede people around). The dog shoud be in the inside of the circle, and it should not shut in the referee’s view of other dogs. If you are not the first in the column, lead you dog in a proper way: between you and the next person there should be enough void, it can make the process of estimating easier. The referee should have the possibility to move and to look round the dogs. For the individual observe of your dog you should get it to him/her very quickly and neatly. The referee has strict time-table and there is only several minutes for refereeing every dog. At home you can train this skill looking at the mirror and paying attention on the dog’s appearance. Think about the referee and try to do this process as quick as possible.

Listen to the referee attentively when he/she explains the right manner of leading the dog: forward and back, along the ring, bias and back. Referees prefer the dogs which can go without pauses because it gives them the possibility to appreciate the movements of the dog better.

Usually the advantageous way of leading the dog is going at middle speed, with right head and good mentioned high line. Don’t induce your dog to quick movements on the ring. Hastle will never give you the possibility to present the dog in the best way, your dog should move with at its natural speed. For the correct referring the movements of the dog should be free. After the referee stops the process try to make the dog to stand as it should.

When the dog stops it must see the bait, in that case the referee will see your dog in concentrated position. As the bait you can use something tasty, that you usually take while training your dog. If you use the toy during the training –show it as well. You should remember that if you use something for feeding you must take it away from the stage. Don’t through it away or on the floor, because another dog can find it. You can take the brush with you and if is necessary you can check and improve the cut of your dog in case when the expert is busy with the others.

During the rewarding take over the prize for your dog thankfully despite your real feelings about it. Any quarrels with the referee and pointed leaving the stage have no sense and will consider as unsporting behavior. You should be amiable enough to congratulate the winner on its achievement.
If the winner is you, please don’t lose your mind and put on airs.
